POLL

　アメリカでは大統領選挙戦の関心が高まっている。これから6日間、選挙に関係した表現を紹介する。1日目の今日は、pollという語を学習する。これは一つには「(ある問題についての)世論調査」という意味で使われる。

○Practical Example

　“There was an opinion poll published on the net this morning.”

　“I saw it, Mr. Walker. It said that this year’s election is going to be close.” 　

　「今朝、ネットに世論調査の結果が出た」　

　「わたしも見ましたよ、ウォーカーさん。それによると、今年の選挙は接戦になるようですね」

●Extra Point 　

　the pollsと複数になると、「投票、選挙」。

　“More people are going to the polls this election than in previous elections.”

　“I think a lot of young people are voting for the first time.” 　

　「今度の選挙は、これまでの選挙より多くの人が投票してくれるだろう」　

　「今までなかったぐらい若者の票も入るんじゃないか」
