TO STALL

　stallは動詞で「（…）を立ち往生させる、行き詰まらせる、（エンジン）を止まらせる、エンストさせる」。

　自動詞、他動詞、両方あるが、他動詞で使われることが多い思う。

○Practical Example 　

　"My car is acting up. The engine stalls easily."

　"You'll have to get it fixed, Brian.

　「車の調子が悪いんだ。エンジンがすぐに止まってしまう」　

　「ブライアン、修理に出さないと」

　次のような形でよく使われる。

　"Cars are backed up for miles on the Metropolitan Highway due to a stalled vehicle in the left-handed lane."

　"The police say it will be another half hour before the car is towed away and traffic stars to run smoothly.

　「首都高速は、左車線に故障車が停まっているため、数マイル渋滞しています」　

　「警察によれば、故障車がレッカー移動されて、車の流れがよくなるにはさらに30分かかるそうだ」

　「事業や交渉が行き詰る」という意味でもよく用いられる。
