TO CUT SHORT

　to cut shortは、「急に終わらせる」「急にさえぎる」。

　"How come you're back in New York, Rupert?"

　"We had to cut our vacation short because of the financial crisis in my company." 　

　「なんでニューヨークに戻ったんだ、ルーパート？」　

　「会社が経営危機に陥ったんで、休暇を切り上げて戻るしかなかったんだ」

●Extra Point 　

　to shortenも、以下の状況では同じような意味で使われる。

◎Extra Example

　"We had to shorten our vacation and come home."

　"You better get to the office, Rupert. Your company is on the rocks."

　「休暇を切り上げて戻るしかなかった」

　「会社に行ったほうがいい、ルーパート。君の会社、経営破たんしている」

TO OVERPRICE

　to overpriceは、「高すぎる値段を付ける」。

○Practical Example

　"These bracelets are nice, but the shop has overpriced them."

　"They're not worth 50,000 yen. I don't think they'll sell at that price."

　「ここに置いてあるブレスレットはすてきだけど、このお店、ちょっと値段が高いんじゃないかしら？」　

　「5万円もしないと思う。この値段じゃ売れないよ」

●Extra Point 　

　形容詞はoverpriced（［実際の価値より］高すぎる値のついた、値段の高すぎる）。

◎Extra Example

　"These bracelets are overpriced."

　"They're not worth 50,000. They'll have to bring down the price if they want to sell them."

　「このブレスレット、高すぎるよ」

　「5万円はしないと思う。売りたいなら、値段を落とさないと」
