　to substantiateは、「実体化する」「実証する」「具体化する」。

　“You can’t just argue a theory, Werner. You have to substantiate it.”

　“Okay, Dwight, I will. Just give me some money and I’ll prove it to you.” 　

　「理論を唱えているだけではだめだ、ワーナー。それを実証しないと」　

　「わかりました、ドワイト。ぼくはやります。お金を少し恵んでください。ちゃんと実証します」

●Extra Point 　

　substantiated（実現できる、実証できる、裏付けられる）、unsubstantiated（実現できない、実証できない、裏付けられない）もよく用いられる。

　“Your theory is unsubstantiated, Werner.”

　“Okay, Dwight. Give me some money and I’ll back it up for you.” 　

　「ワーナー、君の理論は裏付けられていない」　

　「わかりました、ドワイト。お金がいただけたら、裏付けてみせます」 　

　to back something upは、まさにto substantiateと同じ意味。
