ON BEHALF OF

　on behalf of（……に代わって、……の代表［代理］として）は、誰かに代って何かする時、あるいは誰かの代理をつとめる時に用いる。

○Practical Example

　"I am calling on behalf of my sister, who is ill."

　"Thank you very much. What is her name and what can I do for you?" 　

　「姉の代わりにお電話さし上げております。姉は病気なのです」　

　「ありがとうございます。お姉さんのお名前をお知らせください。で、ご用件は？」

●Extra Point 　

　on someone’s behalfは、「誰かのために」（for someone）の意味でも用いられる。

◎Extra Example

　"I called on your behalf, sis, because you were ill."

　"Thanks for making the call to the bank. What did they say?"

　「ねえさん、ぼくが代わりに電話したよ。ねえさんは病気だったから」

　「銀行に電話してくれて、ありがとう。で、向こうはなんて言ってた？」

　sisはsisterの短縮形。「ねえさん、あねき」と感じに近いと思う。
