CAUSE AND EFFECT

　cause and effect, あるいはcause-and-effectは、「原因と結果の、因果（関係）の」。

　“There’s a cause and effect relation between this light and the heat you feel here.”

　“I can see that, professor. What happens when we take the light away?” 　

　「この光と、ここで感じる熱のあいだには、因果関係が存在する」　

　「先生、それはわたしにもわかります。では、そこから光を取ったら、どうなりますか？」

●Extra Point

　causeの形容詞形は、causal（原因の、原因に関する）。名詞と同じ意味で使われる。

　“There is a causal relation between this light and the heat you feel here.”

　“The light causes the skin to heat up. That’s what happens.”

　「この光と、そしてここで感じる熱のあいだには因果関係が存在する」　

　「光が肌の熱を上昇させるんだ。それが起こっている」
