OBSCURE

　obscureは、dark（暗い）の意味のラテン語からきている。「はっきりしない、ぼんやりした」「不明瞭な、あいまいな」の意味で用いられる。

　“The reasons why there is ice on one of Saturn’s moons are still obscure.”

　“Well, we’ll find out what they are soon enough, Carl.” 　

　「土星の輪を形成する衛星の一つになぜ氷があるのか、理由はまだはっきりしない」　

　「カール、すぐにわかるさ」

　名詞のobscurityは、「不明瞭、あいまい」、あるいは「難解」の意味で用いられる。
