　こちらは文字がびっしり詰まっている上に、口語表現だけでなく、洒落た言い方もたくさん入っていて、大変勉強になる。

　今日のGetUpEnglishも本書から気になった表現を紹介する。

　Falcon & Winter Soliderの脚本家Malcolm Spellmanは、こんなことを言っている。

"The other thing we wanted to touch on is that Bucky is around a century old – what is that like? Unfortunately, given how deep we had to go into the other storylines, there’s only flashes of that in our story, but I believe you feel it in his overall journey. We went just as hard for Bucky as we did with Sam. Bucky emotionally, wears his heart right there on his sleeve, or his metal arm."

「バッキーに関しては、彼が100歳になることも触れたかった。ほかのストーリーも深く掘り下げないといけないから、このことはほんの一瞬言及されるだけだけど、それだけでバッキーがこれまでどんな道を歩んできたかわかる。

　サムと同じように、バッキーの人物像も真剣に作り上げようとした。バッキーが初めて感情を露わにするんだ」

　wears his heart right there on his sleeveは、wear one's heart on one's sleeveの変形。

　wear one's heart on one's sleeveは、直訳すれば「袖に自分の心を結びつける」で、昔イギリスでは男性が恋人にもらったリボンやハンカチなどを袖に結んだならわしがあったことからきた表現。。

　そこから「感情［心の内］をすぐ表に出す」の意味で使われる。

　マルコム・スペルマンの言い方がしゃれているのは、そこで wears his heart right there on his sleeve, or his metal armと、バッキーの片腕がメタルアームであることにさりげなく触れていることだ。

　次のように使われる。

○Practical Example

A woman has to learn to play hard to get. Men won't be interested in you if you are always wearing your heart on your sleeve.

「女は男をじらすことを覚えないとだめよ。いつもすぐに心の内を表に出してしまうような女性には男はひかれないの」

　この表現はシェークスピアのOthelloのIagoのセリフにも見られる。

Were I the Moor I would not be Iago.

　In following him I follow but myself;

　Heaven is my judge, not I for love and duty,

　But seeming so for my peculiar end.

　For when my outward action doth demonstrate

　The native act and figure of my heart

　In compliment extern, ’tis not long after
