TO ESCALATE

　escalator（エスカレーター）を考えれば、to escalateの意味も理解しやすいと思う。to escalateで、「段階的に拡大する、エスカレートする」。

　“Yeah, and now no one knows how to stop it.” 　

　「戦争は局地的に始まったが、その後あらゆる点で拡大した」　

　「ああ、今ではどうやって終わらせたらいいか、誰もわからない」
