　wholesaleは商売で使われる。形容詞で使われる場合は、「卸の、卸売りの」。

○Practical Example

　“I’m thinking of buying a sofa at the department store.”

　“Don’t buy it there, Patty. I can get it for you wholesale. My brother sells furniture.” 　

　「デパートで、ソファを買おうと考えているの」　

　「デパートでは買わないほうがいいわ、パティ。卸で買えるところがあるのよ。兄が家具を売っているの」

　wholesaleは、犯罪に関連して使われると、まったく違う意味になる。

◎Extra Example

　“A lot of Iraqis died in the battle in Baghdad yesterday.”

　“It wasn’t a battle, Mr. Gatehead. It was wholesale murder.” 　

　「昨日のバグダッドの戦闘で、多くのイラク人が命を落とした」　

　「あれは戦闘ではありませんでした、ゲートヘッドさん。大量殺戮です」
