TO DISH IT OUT

　では、本日も映画Love Storyから口語表現を紹介します。　

　to dish it outは、「やっつける、けなす、こきおろす」。

　映画では、以下のように使われている。

○Practical Example

　Oliver: "And then again I might call you as soon as I get back to my room."

　Jenny: "Bastard."

　Oliver: "See, you can dish it out, but you sure can’t take it."

　オリバー　「じゃあ、部屋に戻ったら、またすぐに電話するかもしれない」　

　ジェニー　「バカ」　

　オリバー　「君は人に冷たくできるけど、自分が冷たくされるのはいやなんだ」

　次のような形でも使われる。状況によっては、「しかる」「小言を言う」という感じになると思う。

◎Extra Example

　"Mrs. Yoshioka is always dishing it out to her people."

　"But she turns around and kowtows to the president’s daughter."

　「吉岡夫人は部下を年中しかりとばしている」　

　「そのくせ社長の娘にはぺこぺこしているよ」 　

　kowtowは「ぺこぺこする」。中国語の「叩頭する」から英語に入った。
