Well, it was quite exciting to
begin with. I formed over a billion
years ago, in the blistereing heat
and high pressure of a volcano.

About 280 million years ago,
the earliest dinosaurs said 'hello'.
2億8000年くらい前じゃったか、最初の恐竜に挨拶されたぞ。
And, 66 million years ago,
they said 'goodbye'.
そして6600万年くらい前じゃったか、恐竜たちはいなくなった。
There was also that time about
400,000 years ago when woolly
mammoths roamed the world.
40万年くらい前じゃったか、毛の生えたマンモスが地球を歩きまわっておったな。
You lot came along 200,000
years ago. And now ...
あんたらは20万年くらい前に出てきたんじゃ。そして今では…
... Granite like me gets
turned into kitchens.
What a world!
わしみたいな花崗岩はキッチンのワークトップ（天板）に使われとる。
なんともまあ！ 長生きはしてみるもんじゃな。
と実に愉快な1冊だ。
