TO MEET

　to meetが「……に会う」という意味であることは誰でも知っている。

　今日のGetUpEnglishでは、それ以外の意味で使われるto meetの用例を紹介する。　

　to meetは、「対処する」という意味でも使われる。

○Practical Example

　"I am afraid a strong earthquake is going to hit this area in the near future."

  "Every preparation has already been made to meet the quake."

　「このあたりに近いうちに大きな地震があるんじゃないかな」

　「地震の準備はすでに万全だ」 　

●Extra Point 　

　「（要求に）こたえる」「（求められることを）果たす」という意味でも使われる。

　"Small children need love and care. It’s really important for us to take care of them in any case."

　"Taking care of small children is our obligation. We should meet it." 　

　「小さな子どもは愛されなければならないし、世話も受けなければならない。何があろうと、子どもたちの世話をすることがほんとうに重要だ」　

　「小さな子供の世話をするのは、われわれの義務だ。それをしなければならない」
